Come... Take a closer look at the natural world... Climate change and our relationship with the earth are some of the most pressing issues of our times. We're embedded in the natural world - yet experience a grave sense of separation from it. These images are an invitation to pause and reflect on the beauty of the natural world noticing details of autumn color, light, lines, texture, and form.
Artistically, this body of work is inspired by the Bauhaus' use of close cropping, unique perspectives, light, and contemporary cultural emplacement. It also draws on and seeks to go beyond the level of abstraction of previous nature photographers such as Karl Blossfeldt. By creating abstractions that merge figure and ground my hope is that the viewer would reflect on where they end and where nature begins. Are we as separate as we think?
